Principal Investigator, SPIES for Parents and Strategies for Preschool Intervention in Everyday Settings (SPIES)
Sarah Rule serves on two CPD projects. She is the evaluator for the Virtual Home Visits Project. She is also the campus liaison for the Postsecondary Education, Employment, and Research (PEER) project. Project PEER is a program for young adults with developmental disabilities aged 18-21 who participate in special education services of two local education agencies. The Center for Persons with Disabilities houses the program on the Utah State University campus to facilitate students' participation in social, recreational, and employment opportunities with their age peers. The program is funded by the local education agencies. Faculty and graduate students from the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation study variables that may contribute to students' preparation for employment and self direction. Twenty two young adults participated during the 2009-09 school year.
Dr. Rule served for eight years as the Director for the Center for Persons with Disabilities. Her 35 year career includes services to individuals with disabilities, curriculum development, and preparation of personnel. She serves on the editorial boards of several special education journals. She has published more than 50 articles on topics including intervention with young children in everyday settings, preparation of personnel to provide services in collaboration with families and team members from various disciplines, and distance education. Sarah has served as a board member of the national Division for Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional Children and the Association of University Centers on Disabilities. She also serves on several state advisory boards and councils and on committees for the local school districts.
