Documenting Life Stories of Early Utah Settlers with Disabilities
This project conducts historical research documenting the life experiences of early pioneers who settled in Utah in the mid-1800s.
Goals and Objectives
1. To better understand early human service needs in Utah during the early western expansion years.
2. To understand how those experiences influenced individuals, families and communities.
An unexpected result was the finding that there are many similarities to the challenges communities face today in serving people with disabilities as in early pioneer days, helping us to understand how the public responds to disability issues.
