Northern Utah's Choices Out of Violence
Project Details
Project Context/Need:
People with disabilities who experience violence often face unique barriers when seeking helping services that other victims do not encounter. People with disabilities often lack knowledge about services or lack accessible services. This 'lack of services' can be due to limited resources, lack of transportation (especially in rural communities), policies, laws and funding sources that limit services, and competition for limited resources.
Project Focus:
Northern Utah's Choices Out of Violence (NUCOV), is a collaborating project working with the following partners: Community Abuse Prevention Services Agency (CAPSA), the Lead agency, Center for Persons with Disabilities (CPD) at USU, Options for Independence, and Utah Division of Services for People with Disabilities, Northern Region (DSPD.
NUCOV's focus is to create a lasting collaboration of public and private entities working together to ensure that people with disabilities who experience violence are aware of and have access to comprehensive services. As a result of this collaboration, people will have access to services, no matter where they enter the system, and the option to live free of fear and violence.
To ensure people with disabilities living in Cache and Rich Counties of Utah who are victims of violence are aware of and have access to appropriate services, NUCOV will:
- Enhance the capacity of victim and disability service agencies to reach out and provide the protections and services needed.
- Improve the coordination of supports and services between victim and disability service agencies.
Project Services/Products:
The NUCOV project will develop the following in conjunction with the collaborating partners:
1. Collaboration Charter
2. Needs Assessment
3. Strategic Plan
FY 2011 Focus:
The implementation of the strategic plan within the Cache and Rich communities in conjunction with all collaborating partners will continue during year 2011 and forward.
