Research Focus:
Our proposal for the design of New Mexico's evaluation of a new state-funded K-3 Plus Pilot Project will merge effective evaluation methodologies including a Participatory Action Research (PAR) Approach to state evaluation. The methods and measures proposed for this study have been used in other state evaluations of early childhood programs with good success.

The study will identify and evaluate the extent to which statutory requirements of K-3 plus are met including an assessment of student growth in the areas of literacy and numeracy. This evaluation will provide a comprehensive picture of the K-3 Plus Pilot Project during its first two years (2007-2008 and 2008-09) of implementation and progress reporting.

Project Outcomes:
The project will develop a plan to conduct a rigorous, age- and culturally-appropriate evaluation of New Mexico k-3 Plus service models particularly in terms of child outcomes in relation to literacy and numeracy and describe scientific practice as it relates to early literacy/reading curriculum and parent involvement.
