Project Details
Project Context:
Approximately 50,000 people in Utah receive Social Security Disability. Many individuals have a Representative Payee, someone who helps them manage their Social Security money. These Representative Payees can be a family member or friend, or they can be an agency or provider organization responsible to ensure the money received is spent appropriately. It is their responsibility to understand and appropriately act upon Social Security rules and their many intricacies. The Utah Benefits Specialists in the Benefits Planning Assistance and Outreach Program have found that many Representative Payees need more information about Social Security rules, how working impacts various benefits, the work incentives, and other available resources.
Project Focus:
The purpose of this training is to increase the knowledge of individuals' Representative Payees about Social Security, work incentives, reporting requirements, and other available resources to enable them to provide educated assistance in their role as Representative Payees.
Products/Services
1. Approximately 120 individuals will participate in six full day trainings, including personnel of agencies/provider organizations who act as Representative Payees for individuals on Social Security disability.
2. Supplemental trainings will be offered to Representative Payees who seek additional knowledge of the effective use of Social Security work incentives.
