IOTI - Certified Brain Injury Specialist Training

Project Details

Project Context:
An estimated 44,000 residents in Utah are living with a disability related to traumatic Brain injury (TBI). According to a statewide needs assessment, there are gaps in the understanding and treatment of brain injury survivors. Currently, there are only four Certified Brain Injury Specialists in Utah.

Project Focus:
The project offers basic brain injury training statewide. Participants include agency staff and family members working with brain injury survivors in an effort to educate the community on the prevalence of TBI, an understanding of the common effects, and a knowledge of the basic compensating strategies.

Products/Services:
The Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) training is provided to professionals and direct care staff in statewide agencies. This certification complements other existing credentials and is not restricted to any one profession or discipline. It is anticipated that the training will significantly increase the number of CBIS specialists available in the state
