Project Details
Project Context
The purpose of this project is to support parents/families of children that have been recently diagnosed with ASD in their efforts to understand their child's diagnosis and the services available, along with the opportunity to meet other families who are facing the same challenges. Agencies, families and the informal supports in the community will work together to ensure that all families will receive the information they need to ensure their child's optimal development and reduce parenting stress.
Project Focus
The purpose of the project is to assist Utah parents and families by 1) increasing participants' understanding of their child's diagnosis of ASD,
2) assisting participants in identifying early intervention and education services
3) supporting parents in accomplishing their goals for their children 4) providing resources and strategies to support participants in caring for their child and reducing parenting stress
5) increasing the statewide training capacity of Utah Family Voices staff to provide the ABCs of Autism curriculum.
Project Services
The project will provide parent training across the state by providing a 12-hour training course (6 modules) in eight communities. The curriculum will be translated and adapted for the Spanish speaking families. Approximately 160 persons will receive direct training and an estimated additional 100 persons will benefit from the project via web-based dissemination.
