Project Details

To systematically address the outreach training needs in Utah, state funding was awarded to the Center for Persons with Disabilities to assist Utah's disability service agencies and consumer organizations in providing essential training and technical assistance.

The Interagency Outreach Training Initiative (IOTI) addresses training gaps, particularly those where other funding is not available, such as for paraprofessional education. In addition, the IOTI facilitates coordination of training efforts among disability service agencies and consumer groups in Utah. State agencies and organizations of consumers and families throughout the state participate in establishing training priorities and approving proposals for training activities. Participating organizations include the Office of Rehabilitation Services, the Utah State Office of Education's Services to Students at Risk, Division of Services for People with Disabilities, Division of Community and Family Health, Division of Mental Health, Division of Aging and Adult Services, Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind, the Utah Parent Center, and the Utah Developmental Disabilities Council (UDDC). The UDDC also appoints a service provider, an individual with a disability and a family member to the IOTI Steering Council.

The IOTI has provided funding to train paraprofessionals in the areas of supported employment, positive behavioral supports, and interpreter certification. In addition, aging, assistive technology, self determination, early intervention, education of families and siblings and outreach to diverse cultural and linguistic groups have been among the areas of need targeted for projects.

These projects, as well as their budgets and reports of outcomes of completed projects, are listed separately. There were eleven IOTI projects funded for the 2009-2010 funding year.
