Up to 3 Offers Virtual Home Visits

The use of internet video conferencing has become widespread in many fields, but the use of the internet conferencing to deliver intervention services to young children with disabilities and their parents is an innovative use of this technology. The Up to 3 Early Intervention program at the CPD is piloting a program called Virtual Home Visits (VHV) to test the effectiveness of using audio/video conferencing with young children with disabilities, ages 0-3, and their parents.

The Up to 3 families that have chosen to participate in this feasibility pilot will continue to receive their regular services, but their feedback on the effectiveness of the virtual home visits will help determine if internet conferencing should be considered a viable service option in the future. Receiving intervention over the internet could provide families who live in rural or isolated areas more services than program budgets can currently cover.

In these times of budget constraints and cuts, the use of internet conferencing may be one way that programs such as Up to 3 can continue to provide exemplary services to their families.
