EC-ATP Teacher Licensure Program

Many preschool teachers in rural areas of Utah lack the appropriate licensing required by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. These instructors are often located far from university campuses that offer the coursework necessary for their certification.

In response to this problem, the Utah State Office of Education and the CPD have created a program allowing teachers to take classes and complete student teaching requirements in their own communities. The program, the Early Childhood Alternative Teacher Preparation Program (EC-ATP), utilizes real-time broadcasting, video-conferencing, and the internet to offer coursework and supervision from a distance. EC-ATP has been serving Utah’s educators since 1994 and has graduated more than 65 students.
