WebAIM Completes Spanish Translation of WAVE

CPD's Project

WebAIM Services

WebAIM (Web Accessibility In Mind) has a Spanish translation of the WAVE web accessibility evaluation tool available.

WAVE is a free online tool developed by WebAIM. Rather than providing a complex technical report, WAVE shows the original web page with embedded icons and indicators that reveal the accessibility of that page.

The Center for Persons with Disabilities (CPD) at Utah State University funded the initial translation of a Spanish-language version of the WAVE web-based tool and Firefox toolbar and the development of a framework that will support translation into many other languages. Up until now, there were relatively few web accessibility evaluation tools available in other languages. Diogenes Hernandez and Jon Whiting, both Spanish-speaking members of the WebAIM team, coordinated the translation project.

The second goal of the translation team is to engage the international web accessibility community in refining the Spanish version of WAVE and collaborating on translating WAVE into other languages. There are presently several international persons interested in helping with other translations, including German, Turkish, and Russian.
