PEER Supports Postsecondary Student
Project PEER (Postsecondary Education, Employment, and Research), located on the USU campus, is a unique program that supports students with intellectual disabilities. A base classroom, housed in the Center for Persons with Disabilities (CPD), supports students, aged 18-21, who are enrolled in special education in local education agencies. Each student has a current Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and engages in employment internships and social and recreational activities located in various campus and community locations.
The PEER Project at USU is just one of the programs or services that support students with disabilities. The Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) is working with the Center for Postsecondary Education for Individuals with Disabilities at the University of Massachusetts to identify other college programs or services that support students with intellectual disabilities. This information will be used to identify the characteristics and outcomes of these postsecondary education programs to further understand their impact on individuals.
If your college and/or school system has a program or provides services, or if you know of any programs or services that exist in your community, region, or state, please contact their website at http://www.thinkcollege.net/identifyprograms/ to help them with this research.
