One-time Social Security payment

March 18, 2009 by Bryce

In May 2009, Social Security will distribute a one-time payment of $250 to Social Security and Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries nationwide. The payments are provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  A leaflet which discusses distribution of the one-time payment in greater detail is available.

Please help us get the word out to people with disabilities and their families about this one-time payment.

As of May 22 I have not recieved a mailing informing me that I will be getting the one time payment of $250. Other people I know receiving SSI and SSD checks recived a letter. I receive both Social Security and Disability. I’m concerned that I will not get the much needed payment. What, if anything, should I do?

In response to Judith’s question, the payments are not expected to be sent until the beginning of May through the end of May. If you have not received yours by June 4th, there is a toll free number that you can call that is found on the Social Security Online website at http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10519.html#13. On this website there is also a Question/Answer page that will answer any other questions that you might have. You do not have to do anything in order to receive your payment, and they ask that you do not contact them until after June 4th. Good luck!
