Division Information

Technical assistance comprises a large portion of the CPD's efforts on local, state, and national levels. During the past fiscal year, 20 percent of the CPD's total budget was utilized for technical assistance. Over 8,000 hours of technical assistance were provided to a variety of agencies and organizations by CPD staff in the past year.

The Center for Technical Assistance for Excellence in Special Education (TAESE) is the CPD's largest technical assistance provider. Many different programs within TAESE currently serve ten states and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA).

The Mountain Plains Regional Resource Center (MPRRC) provides technical assistance to develop quality programs and services for children with disabilities within state education agencies. MPRRC identifies and analyzes persisting problems that interfere with the provision of special education services. It links state education agencies experiencing similar problems, assists them in developing solutions and supports them in their efforts to adopt new technologies and practices.

Other technical assistance projects under TAESE include dispute resolution contracts with specific states, state advisory panel facilitation, the ASK-12 project which provides for assessments for educational interpreters, a consortium for states addressing parent involvement indicators, and other contracts.

Several technical assistance projects are operated through other divisions at the CPD. Projects address a wide variety of topics, including program evaluation, serving culturally diverse populations, and providing accessibility of web-based educational opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
