The Center for Persons with Disabilities at Utah State University

About the CPD

The CPD is Utah’s Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities at Utah State University. It is a dynamic collection of over 70 projects, guided by a goal to improve the lives of people with disabilities and their families. This is done through research, education, demonstration services and technical assistance.

A Consumer Advisory Council (CAC) composed of individuals with disabilities, family members, and staff liaisons advises the CPD director about the Center’s impact on systems change, advocacy, and capacity building. The CAC approves the CPD’s annual goals and regularly reviews progress towards their accomplishment.

CPD research adds to the knowledge about disability, its causes, its diagnosis and the best ways to accommodate it in daily life. Our training programs pass research-based techniques on to educators, families and service providers in the community. Demonstration services further bolster training by providing a real-world environment where techniques are tried and trainees learn how to provide services in their field. The people who receive services benefit from the expertise of the center, which provides education, evaluation and treatment to people who need it. Technical assistance is provided to entities that require help as they implement policies relating to disability.

The center is organized into divisions. These divisions provide both an administrative structure and a mechanism for like-minded individuals to focus on a project.

Address, Phone Numbers & Directions to the CPD

New and exciting things are happening at the CPD, with the construction of a new Clinical Services Building on the site of the original CPD building. During the demolition/construction phase, the majority of CPD projects have been moved to the Human Services Research Center, directly to the east of the old CPD building. Please contact us if you need help finding the location of a project of person. Thank you for your patience while we grow!
